Be sure to activate KNXnet/IP tunneling. And be sure that iKNX is the only application connected to the gateway. All gateways we know only support one connection at a time!

IP gateways supports KnxNet/IP Tunneling, and IP routers supports KnxNet/IP Routing. That's two differents things, as Tunelling is unicast (for bus management), and routing multicast (for zone coupling over IP).
Then, the implementation for hardware can change from one manufacturer to another. As long as the gateway does tunneling and the router does routing, it's OK regarding the KNX certification. I've found myself with a router allowing only one tunneling connection (MTN680329), while the N146 allows multiple tunneling connections (I've never tested this one).

You could use multicast connections with OR KNX as well IF the protocoll would be implemented (and the filter is not active or it is well configured in the router). I would prefere to use multicast!!!!!

Does anyone have experience with Gira Homeserver as a IP interface, I can use ETS software to program devices from my laptop via IP using the gateway on the Gira Homeserver this uses an IP address and a port address 50000 to gain access to the EIB bus , does open remote support IP port numbers

If you program your devices with ETS and Gira Homeserver the communication ist based on EIBlib/IP.
The homeserver represents the iETS server and ETS is a iETS client.

OpenRemote is using KNXnet/IP which is a different protocol.

That's one reason why the router is douple the price then the gateway.
eg
N148 -> only one connection
N146 -> multiple connections

I don't think the N146 allows multiple tunnels.
