The iPhone is a revolutionary device from many standpoints. As a fully programmable and hence generic touch-driven panel, its significance to the Home Automation field is clear.

At OpenRemote we focus on the iPhone and the iPod touch as a handset touch panel, delivering a significantly higher SAF (Spouse Acceptance Factor) for your automated home. We believe that unique features of the iPhone, such as two-finger touch control and motion detection, can support a user experience that is far beyond what traditional remote controls with physical buttons are able to achieve.
Our goal is to create online (and later offline) tools and building blocks for you to install, program, and customize the handset software. We also plan to create a (naturally simpler) web-based console interface that would work with any other cellphone, or indeed any computer that has a webbrowser.
The design of the Cocoa application for iPhone and iPod touch is described under the section Console Applications.
The scene and user interface profile editor is described under Manager Applications.
