The OpenRemote community is growing!

Yes we are still mostly under the covers, growing silently but there are new faces and names popping up steadily to join the ranks. I haven't met all of them, I've worked with some of them and I'm already impressed by the knowledge of every one of them.

We seem to have a fairly even split of Java middleware experts and home automation experts. Most, if not all, are familiar with Open Source and some very deeply so.

So let's see who I know and what I know about them. If I by this introduction manage to gravely insult you in some way... well, too bad.

Marc Fleury - The person who brings us all together. Also the guinea pig for OpenRemote and the first user of it for his house. One of the pioneers of Open Source business. Marc is doing thinking behind the brand, the messaging, PR, licensing. Oh, and he invented Professional Open Source, have you heard of it?

Christian Bauer - The man behind the software that runs this website. Obviously knows his Java, Seam, Hibernate and a bunch of other Java frameworks really well. Can do SQL cross products in his dreams. Doesn't have trouble maintaining his own servers. And seems to be a gadget enthusiast to boot. Has bootstrapped many a Open Source community. He's working on Beehive and digging through LIRC to create a real device database for the community.

Michael Yuan - The mobile device expert. Has written several books on Java, including the definitive guide to J2ME programming. Is working on creating a native iPhone client for OpenRemote.

Mark Spencer - Haven't seen him much on this site? Neither have we. Mark's claim to fame is Digium and Asterisk. He's working on the OpenRemote hardware design.

Neil Cherry - "A walking encyclopedia of home automation". There probably isn't a device or protocol in the HA field Neil doesn't know about. Has done it all and tried it all. The author of Linux Home Automation for Dummies. The founder of linuxha.com. Neil has also kindly written a more extensive introduction of himself. Neil is right now working on the OS level drivers to integrate with various HA protocols.

Wade Wassenberg - The man behind the JavaX10 project. Likes to dwell in the strange space between Java and hardware. Makes jokes about me that I don't understand. Is working on integrating our Java layers with CM15A. Wade also has a more detailed bio online.

Ben Drawbaugh - Regularly writes for Engadget and has a wealth of information on the home automation space and various gadgets. You can find Ben sharing his insight about user interface design and other topics in our forums.

Stewart Allen - The person behind Tonto project. We are hoping to leverage Stewart's knowledge in seeding our Beehive device database with some IR codes.

Me - My expertise is in server-side Java and I'm currently working on the Java Services for the OpenRemote Controller and some parts of the OpenRemote Online Manager.

And there are more, quiet members lurking. I'd encourage everyone to create a simple home page in the 'Members' section and just tell us who you are. Or just leave a note here in the comments or in the forums with a brief introduction.
