Hi All,

We want to make it easier for everybody to participate in our real-time discussions around OpenRemote. For the moment we've set up a Skype public chat room to enable this. Public Skype chat rooms are available at least to Mac OS X and Windows users of Skype.

Longer term we want to set up a Jabber server for our chats which will let you use a range of different clients and operating systems to participate. We are also looking at integrating the chat window directly to this website. Please allow us some time to get things set up on the infrastructure side to make this happen. For now, if you want to talk to us real-time, please join the Skype chat room.

Hi Juha

Any idea what the room name is? I'm trying to connect to the Skype chat rooms with Pidgin (or maybe finch - the command line version of pidgin, the via screen so I won't loose the connection).

I'm not done with studying yet (but I like to sneak out and play ;-).

"OpenRemote Community"

Also here's the details from the URL attributes in case it helps (I haven't tried Pidgin to connect to Skype):

joinpublicchat?skypename=juhalindfors&topic=OpenRemote%20Community&blob=JawQQGYddVpabNgvRuzP0s4lMD9Hj30ITEmXfuGdk4jGe1ktvEzRUPKFn5BxAWR7dGw

I was looking at a XMPP server installation the other day. Hope to test it soon.

Well it appears to be working, When I entered OpenRemote Community into the Room dialog box and hit accept it open the message dialog box. I had triad the blob=... section the previous time but that didn't appear to work. I'll leave it up all day and see if anyone joins though I might not be able to respond.

Thanks!

We are all there but can't see you, so I am guessing it didn't work. Seems like it created a room just for you?

BTW, how are you using Pidgin to connect to Skype accounts? I quickly glanced through the Pidgin Skype-plugin page and it seems to still require you have Skype running. Why not use Skype directly?

This is true (can't wait until you have a jabber setup). One problem is that I can't just click on the provided link. Linux/Firefox doesn't understand the skype: URL. I still have to manually enter the room information. So far I've been unable to do that. Nothing appears to work. I can create rooms (except a room with the name like this: JawQQGYddVpabNgvRuzP0s4lMD9Hj30ITEmXfuGdk4jGe1ktvEzRUPKFn5BxAWR7dGw , that gets an error). I can't get to the skype rooms. Also don't ask if I can use a Windows machine. My work laptop can not run Skype (security).

Well I can enter the juhalindfors room and I'm the only one there - 1 person in the room - as opposed to all the other rooms I was the 0 person in the room.

Ok but you can run Skype, right?

Send me your Skype user details, my ID is 'juhalindfors'.

There was also a mention that Skype rooms work on Windows and Mac OS X -- there was no specific mention of Linux so we will see.

Let's first see if we can chat on skype one-to-one. Then I'll try to invite you to the room. Let me know your Skype id.

Don't worry I won't force you to use Windows ;-)

I'll get the XMPP running soon.
