Came across this guys: http://www.commandfusion.com/. Based in Australia, they just released an app for iPhone to control hardware or software capable of TCP/IP Socket communication. Supposedly compatible with home automation systems such as Crestron, AMX and Control4.

Looks good, clearly a lot of the ideas we want to develop are in this windows product. Obviously, if this requires a Crestron or AMX install then you are talking to a small group of folks that have it already installed. We are not the first ones but won't be the last ones either.

more points on this

  1. Sign of the times. Everyone has thought of the iPhone as a universal remote thingy. Doing it in OSS is thus a natural.
  2. The fact that we are late to it compared to proprietary offerings is not a problem. I will take the blame for not producing much since the first time I prototyped it at home (march). We will get there.
  3. It provides a clear template to bench ourselves to in terms of feature list for a AMX/CRESTRON RC (which this is) and a cool GUI BUILDER that we should emulate. A lot of the ideas we had are implemented here.
  4. At the end of the day, there are 100 offerings, brand is the key. Thank God you and I know how to do that, no? He he

We will have some news to sink your teeth in pretty soon, the fact that there are others doing the same and beating us to it is not a huge issue, we still have some run-way, not an infinite runway but some runway.
